Research Committee 13 – Leisure Study International Sociological Association

Author:  Source:  Hits:  Date:16/02/09

23-26th October 2009
Beijing, China

    Background

Leisure, as a common social-cultural phenomenon, has thoroughly permeated the life-style, behavior, and consumption of contemporary people, permeated the formulation of national public policy, economic policy, culture policy, and permeated the basic factors in service of nations and peoples, of the promotion of humanism, and of the building of a harmonious world. The role of leisure in adjusting social tensions has been increasingly evident, which has resulted in a focus of attention on leisure by scholars worldwide.
Undoubtedly, human beings are in an era of culture blending & re-construction, dialogue and cooperation. Scholars are thinkers, those who take responsibilities for social morality and justice, and historical constructors utilizing the power of humanism to drive human civilization and development. Thus, the world in its development expects mutual dialogue among philosophy, sociology, culture studies, anthropology, history, education, economics and other disciplines.
In these circumstances, during “the first international sociology forum” on 7th September 2008 in Barcelona Spain, the Leisure Research Committee of International Sociological Association determined to co-sponsor the Mid-term Conference of ISA RC 13 in Beijing, China, with the Center for Leisure Studies of the Chinese Academy of Art, the Committee on Leisure Philosophy of China, and Peking University.
Founded in 1947, the International Sociological Association is a member organization of the UNESCO. It is headquartered in France with 45 professional committees. It Leisure Research Committee was established recently and aims to boost the research on issues in leisure studies.
October in Beijing is a golden season. Beijing, both the historical capital with 850 years of history and a modern metropolis, is expecting friends from all over the world!
