Prof.Bihu Wu attended Summit on Education in Tourism Education Future Initiatives 2009 (TEFI) 21-28 April Lugano, Switzerland

      During 21-28 April Lugano, Switzerland, Professor Bihu Wu, Secretary-General of International Tourism Studies Association(ITSA), Director of the Centre for Recreation and Tourism Research at Peking University (CRTR) is invited by Temple University to participate in Summit on Education in Tourism Education Future Initiatives 2009  (TEFI). The Summit is co-organized by Bocconi University (Italy)、Modul University( Austria)、Temple University(USA)、Victoria Universiy、University of Hawai’i(USA)、LaTrobe University( Australia)、Education Network and achieved great success.

      The Summit on Education in Tourism Education Future Initiatives 2009 (TEFI), which intends to build on the results of the two Summits held last year in Hawaii and year before in Vienna. As in the previous meetings, this conference will include about 30 of the leading thinkers picked from academia and industry from around the world. The goal of the Summit is to identify concrete strategies for improving the skills and knowledge needed by students to effectively manage change and lead the industry in the future. On the opening session, Daniel Fesenmaier and Pauline Sheldon summarize work to date revisiting the purpose of TEFI: Setting agenda for workshop. Dr. Thomas Bieger, Vice Rector, University of St. Gallen, Switzerland and Dr. Irena Ateljevic, Academy of Hope made keynote speech on Future issues in Education. All delegates from various backgrounds actively discussed assorted issues including Outcomes-Based Education in the Context of TEFI、Linking Values into Curriculum Design、Challenges to Value-based Education Faculty and Upper Administration Context,etc.

      During the summit, delegates site visited Lugano lake、Gandria,ect.

TEFI background: Leading educators and scholars in the field of tourism are intimately aware of the seismic changes our industry faces. Unfortunately, it seems that few undergraduate and graduate tourism programs are preparing our students for this quickly changing world. Indeed, it is clear that we need to prepare them for a very different world and that we need a quantum shift in our approach to educating students for the tourism world of the future. The Summits on the Future of Tourism Education address the skills and knowledge needed by students to effectively manage change and lead the industry in the future.
