According to the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research in 2005, the School was already ranked fourth in the world among major academic institutions in hospitality and tourism based on research and scholarly activities. It has evolved into one of the largest schools of hospitality management in the world and the leading school of its kind in Asia.
More than 1,600 students are enrolled in the School, and there are 50 academic staff from 18 countries, the majority of whom possess hospitality or tourism industry managerial experience– an important quality in an educational programme that provides practical and specialised business education.
The School also has an active Advisory Committee consisting of industry leaders advising the School on curriculum and development matters. This helps ensure that the curricula mirror the realities and fill the needs of today’s – and tomorrow’s – industry.
As the School continues to lead Asia and moves further up the global rankings, there are already in place strong synergies among four key stakeholder groups: the industry, the University, students, and academic staff. Nurturing these partnerships, which are at the heart of our success, will continue.
Never complacent, the School continues to look to the future and more growth. For example, scheduled to be completed in 2010, the planned teaching hotel will allow students to learn and practise first-hand in what will become an icon of hospitality education and the industry itself.
