Professor Haiyan Song has a background in Economics. His main research area is tourism economics with a particular focus on tourism demand modeling and forecasting. He was educated both in China and the UK and has extensive research and consultancy experiences in such areas as foreign direct investment (FDI) in China and economic issues related to China 's tourism sector. Over the years Professor Song has been involved in a number of projects on forecasting tourism demand in Hong Kong, Macau and other Asia countries such as Korea and Thailand . Professor Song has spoken frequently, as invited speaker and presenter of research papers, at various international conferences on issues related tourism impact assessment and forecasting. He is Fellow of the International Academy for the Studies of Tourism (IAST), President of the International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA), Editor-in-Chief of Journal of China Tourism Research, and Co-Editor of Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies. Professor Song taught at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in China, Glasgow Caledonian University, University of Abertay Dundee and University of Surrey in the UK before joining the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2004, as Associate Director and Chair Professor of Tourism. |
