Tourism Economist Dr. Wong has extensive experience in both academic and industry administration. He is Associate Professor in Tourism Economics and Vice President of Industry and Strategic Projects at UCSI University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Tourism Economics, from the Scottish Hotel School, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. At UCSI University, Dr. Wong is leading the Centre of Excellence for Hospitality and Tourism that include the Faculty of Hospitality and Management and the development of UCSI Group’s Hotels and Convention Centre. Dr Wong is an active researcher in both fundamental and applied research in the area of Tourism Policy and Strategy, and International Trade. He has successfully secured research grants and consultancy projects from national and international agencies. Dr. Wong is consistently invited as consultant and advisor to the Ministry of Tourism in ASEAN member countries, and to deliver keynote address at prestigious conferences and universities at China, the UK, Taiwan, Vietnam, Spain and Pakistan. His service is also extended to Peking University, China as Visiting Research Fellow. Dr Wong has published over 40 articles in the past six years in the form of chapter in books and international refereed journals, proceedings in international and national Conferences, and his work is being cited in top ranked journals such as Tourism Management and Tourism Economics. He is also a founding member of International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA) and serves in various Executive Committee boards. Dr. Wong’s most recent significant contribution is witnessed by successfully completed and has been adopted by ASEAN as ASEAN Tourism Investment Corridor Strategic Roadmap 2010-2015. He is presently leading two strategic initiatives in his career as Tourism Economist. (1) He is Chairman to a project commissioned by the Prime Minister Department, to develop human capital to fuel the growth of the Malaysian Tourism Industry from 2010 to 2020. (2) Dr. Wong is also Director and Founder of TRIPS (Tourism Research Institute for Policy Studies). With an ambition to formalize and create greater awareness of the importance of Strategic level knowledge of Tourism Economic Development for national and corporate growth objective, where reliable data, indexes and information will be available to foster robustness of policy and strategic decision.
